Restructuring of the ESCA high-rise building in Strasbourg - Place des Halles

The project consisted of renovating the former Caisse d'Epargne office tower, acquired by AFI.ESCA through SCI QUAI KLEBER.

The prime contractor was requested to go beyond simply refurbishing the building, so that the existing structure, profoundly characterised by the Caisse d'Epargne, would have a new, emblematic and modern identity. The architect chosen for this project is Denis Dietschy from DRLW Architects.

The office tower renovation project will enable AFI.ESCA to affirm its position in the city of Strasbourg.

To achieve this, the design incorporates both the image of a monolith anchored by its foundations, rising towards the sky with agility and vitality, and ambitious post-renovation energy performance levels, given that the tower is categorised as a high-rise building.

The office tower renovation project focused on the following points:

  • bringing the tower into compliance with the applicable requirements for high-rise buildings
  • raising the energy performance to the low-energy renovation level
  • changing the facades of the office tower.

Very good management of the regulatory constraints

The project does not feature any groundbreaking technological innovations, but it takes a systems approach (with integration of solutions) and deals with the imposed constraints (regulations, worksite management), thus making this demonstration building innovative.
